The UQ Nutrition and Dietetics Clinic is a student-led clinic. Consultations are led by student dietitians supervised by Accredited Practising Dietitians, to provide nutrition and dietary advice to individuals to improve your health and well-being.

Clinic details

Our clinic aims to deliver a client-centred service with a commitment to helping you meet your individual needs and nutrition goal. The student dietitian/s consider each client's medical and personal circumstances to recommend the most appropriate and realistic strategies to improve your nutrition and overall health.    

Once you have made a booking, you will be sent a Client Consent Form. Please complete this form prior to attending your appointment.

Our services

As a client of our clinic, you will receive a comprehensive and personalised nutrition consultation that meets your individual goals. No referral is required to attend the UQ Nutrition and Dietetics clinic.

The clinic offers the following services:

  • Initial consultation (60 minutes)
  • Review consultation (30 minutes)
    • Initial and review consultations include a comprehensive assessment of your food intake and relevant information to improve your nutrition. During the consultation, a student dietitian will work with you to develop a personalised nutrition goal and strategies. The student dietitian will provide nutrition and dietary advice and resources to support you in meeting your nutrition goal.
  • Body composition assessment using Bod Pod machine (15 minutes).

Eligibility

We can provide expert dietary advice for the management and treatment of a range of health conditions, as well as offer general advice on healthy eating and activity. 

We can assist people with dietary advice and support in a range of areas, including:

  • Healthy eating, including increasing fibre, reducing salt intake and balanced vegetarian/vegan diet.
  • Weight management
  • Pre-Diabetes/Insulin resistance and Type 2 Diabetes
  • Malnutrition
  • Heart health:
    • High cholesterol
    • High blood pressure
  • Gastrointestinal disorders and conditions
    • Coeliac disease
    • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
    • Reflux
    • Diverticulitis
    • Constipation  
  • Kidney disease
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Food allergies and intolerances
  • Nutrition support during cancer treatment and recovery 
  • Women’s health:
    • Pregnancy and breastfeeding 
    • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
  • Healthy ageing
  • Nutrition for sport and performance

Dietitians provide expert nutrition and dietary advice, however due to the nature of our student led clinic, not all conditions can be seen. Conditions that are outside the scope of the UQ Nutrition and Dietetics clinic, include:

  • Eating disorders
  • Tube feeding
  • Complex gastrointestinal disorders
  • Complex clinical conditions requiring specialist support
  • Paediatrics (under 16 year olds)

Availability

This clinic runs every Monday and Friday during both university semesters.
