Completing a PhD or MPhil is a challenging and rewarding endeavour.

The staff here at the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences are available to help you take advantage of the opportunities available as a HDR student and to support you in your journey to make new discoveries.

As a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidate, you should make yourself familiar with the resources provided by the UQ Graduate School. A range of helpful resources specific to completing a Higher Degree by Research can be found here.

Ethics review

Students conducting research involving human subjects must obtain UQ research ethics approval before commencing that aspect of the research. This covers any HDR project involving either structured or formal interviews, or collecting data that includes personal information (whether the data is collected directly from participants, or is mined from non-public archives or organisational records).

See the following page for details:

Note that if you think your study is of low/negligible risk (LNR) to participants (e.g. survey, simple behavioural test) you should read the section on that page describing Low and Negligible Risk, as this will assist you in having a submission considered by the Faculty Committee.

For all other students (undergraduate, coursework masters) there is a HMNS Ethics Committee.

Annual postgraduate research conference

The UQ School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences Postgraduate Student Conference is an annual event which gives postgraduate research students an opportunity to showcase their work and share the latest in research methodology, findings and practical implications in the areas of health, human movement and nutrition sciences.

All students enrolled in postgraduate studies at a South East Queensland university are invited to attend and collaborate with fellow researchers and academics in their respective field.

Each year, the Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences Postgraduate Student Conference relies on the generous support of sponsors to provide students with a platform to develop their research and professional skills. If you would like to learn more about sponsorship opportunities please contact:
