Program Details

The Human Movement & Nutrition Science (HMNS) Personal Training Service returns for 2024! The HMNS Personal Training Service has run for the past 11 years and is highly popular among members of the UQ community.

The purpose of the program is to assist individuals who are not currently reaching their recommended weekly exercise. Did you know that the recommendations for healthy physical activity, are two strength training sessions, in addition to 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per week? If you aren't meeting this, we can assist!

We offer 18 individual personal training sessions plus group training services. You register for the Individual Personal Training, and you will have unrestricted access to our Group Training sessions for free! The Personal Training will run twice per week (one face-to-face and one online each week) for 8 weeks, plus an additional comprehensive fitness assessment at the beginning and the end so you can see how much you have progressed.

Eligibility

One of the key educational aims of the HMNS Personal Training Service is to provide students with an opportunity to work with clients who are not currently physically active - our students need the opportunity to develop the skills required to help inactive people become active.

Therefore, you will be eligible for this service if:

  • You are currently insufficiently active for good health (Australian Guidelines: 30 minutes moderate intensity physical activity at least 5 times per week AND muscle strengthening exercise at least 2 times per week).
  • You do NOT want sport-specific training (e.g. competitive weight lifting or a triathlon)
  • You do NOT want a treatment or rehabilitation program for a specific condition or injury (e.g. chronic low back pain, ACL tear, Type 2 Diabetes, Stroke).

Personal training

In each training week, you will have 2 sessions, the first of which will be face-to-face at the HMNS gym, and the 2nd of which will be run online in the comfort of your own home (or wherever you choose to take it)! These sessions will be run in each morning or afternoon of the week.

Group Training sessions

There will be a selection of morning and afternoon Group sessions, and all Group sessions will be hybrid, meaning you have the option to come into HMNS and complete the class face-to-face, or if you prefer, complete the class online via Zoom.

The program will commence the week starting on Monday the 29th of July with a comprehensive fitness assessment. Our student trainers will then take one week to develop and refine your specific exercise program, then you will start your individual training from week starting Monday the 12th of August.
