The Cancer, Ageing and Mental Health Clinic is an individually prescribed exercise program for people with cancer.

Program Details

The Cancer, Ageing and Mental Health Clinic is designed to encourage physical activity and help participants incorporate exercise into their long-term treatment plans. Our weekly 45-minute sessions are facilitated by third-year Clinical Exercise Physiology students and supervised by experienced accredited exercise physiologists in a private, fully equipped gym operated by The University of Queensland.

The program is held in April-May each year, is FREE and includes at least:

  • 2 assessments of aerobic fitness, muscle strength, cardiovascular health, balance and flexibility.
  • 4 individualised exercise sessions facilitated by third-year exercise physiology students and supervised by experienced exercise physiologists designed to improve your muscular strength and power, aerobic fitness and balance.
  • A personalised home exercise program to guide ongoing home-based exercise.

Eligibility

Participants are required to obtain a letter from their physician (template provided) with relevant information to assist with exercise testing and prescriptions.

Availability

This program exclusively runs during April and May each year.
