Postgraduate research students presented their work to academia, industry and their peers at the UQ School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences (HMNS) Postgraduate Student Conference.

Now in its eighteenth year, the two-day conference featured presentations on a range of human movement and nutrition science research topics including mental fatigue on athletic performance, exercise and genetics, nutrition and macular degeneration and sports injuries.

The theme of this year’s conference was ‘People, Partnership and Performance’.

More than 40 postgraduate researchers presented to a friendly, supportive and interdisciplinary community, who gave constructive feedback on their research work.

PhD students and Executives of the Organising Committee, Oliver Canfell and Chloe Salisbury said the conference was a great opportunity for higher degree by research (HDR) students to grow as researchers and people.

“People are at the heart of everything we do, and we wanted this year’s conference to be a catalyst for encouraging researchers to go against the grain, try something new and do what they can to create change for themselves and the people around them,” Oliver said.

“We encourage the audience to provide feedback on individual presentations, which helps students enhance their presentation skills and improve their research work,” Chloe said.

The event was held at UQ’s St Lucia campus and was attended by more than 70 people - making it the biggest HMNS Postgraduate Conference to date.
