Professor Helen Truby has been appointed as Professor and Chair in Nutrition and Dietetics within the UQ School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences.
Professor Truby was most recently Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics and Director of Dietetics at Monash University, where from 2009 to 2018 she founded and led the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Her connections to UQ are strong, having been a Senior Research Fellow and Director of Clinical Nutrition in the Children’s Nutrition Research Centre from 2005 to 2009.
Professor Truby holds a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (Hons) from the University of Wales in Cardiff, a Master of Human Nutrition from Deakin and a PhD from the University of Melbourne. She has significant clinical experience in paediatric dietetics both in the UK and Australia and academic experience at the University of Surrey, UK.
Professor Truby has a well-established national and international reputation for her contributions in nutrition evidenced by her Fellowships of the Association for Nutrition and the Nutrition Society of Australia. She is an Advanced Accredited Practicing dietitian. She is Deputy Chair of the National Academy of Science committee on nutrition and holds honorary appointments at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and at Monash Health. Professor Truby is an Honorary Senior Fellow of the Global Centre for Nutrition and Health, which is based at Cambridge’s Wolfson College.
The author of over 150 papers in influential journals such as the British Medical Journal, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Pediatrics and the International Journal of Obesity, Professor Truby is a Chief Investigator on three current NHMRC grants, and has attracted more than $5.2million in research funding in the past five years.
She is highly experienced in curriculum development and accreditation processes in nutrition and dietetics. She has extensive expertise in e-learning and engaging the public in nutrition education. She was the developer and lead educator of the Food as Medicine MOOC, rated in the Top 100 MOOCs of all time in 2019.
