Do you find it hard to self-motivate and get your weekly physical activity in?

Feel like you need that extra help getting your step count up day to day?

We are here to help!

The Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences (HMNS) Personal Training Service has run for the

past 10 years and is highly popular among members of the UQ community. This year, we have learned from all our previous offerings and are now presenting our most convenient and easy program yet!

The Human Movement & Nutrition Science Personal Training Service returns for 2023! We are offering a flexible model of hybrid face-to-face and online training sessions (or entirely online), depending on your unique week-to-week schedules.

What is the purpose of the program?

To assist individuals who are currently insufficiently active for good health in a way that is safe, effective, and sustainable. Did you know that the recommendations for healthy physical activity are two strength training sessions per week in addition to 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity? If you aren't meeting this, we can assist!

What type of training do you offer?

We offer 1:1 personal training plus group training services. You register for the Individual Personal Training, and you will have unrestricted access to our Group Training sessions for free! The Personal Training will run twice per week (one face-to-face and one online each week) for 8 weeks, plus an additional comprehensive fitness assessment at the beginning and the end so you can see how much you have progressed.

When and where will it take place?

Personal training: In each training week you will have 2 sessions, the first of which will be face-to-face at the HMNS gym, and the 2nd of which will be run online in the comfort of your own home (or wherever you choose to take it)! These sessions will be run in each morning or afternoon of the week.

Group Training sessions: There will be a selection of morning and afternoon Group sessions, and all Group sessions will be hybrid, meaning you have the option to come in to HMNS and complete the class face-to-face, or if you prefer, complete the class online via Zoom.

The program will start Monday the 31st of July with the first week being the comprehensive fitness assessment. Our student trainers will then take one week to develop and refine your specific exercise program, then you will start your individual training from Monday the 13th of August.

How many sessions do I get?

18 individual personal training sessions and unlimited group training sessions.

Who will be running the sessions?

The service is delivered by our friendly, enthusiastic 2nd year undergraduate students under the supervision of an experienced practicing Accredited Exercise Physiologist or Exercise Scientist.

Why should I sign up to the program?

The question is, why shouldn’t you? This year we are offering our most flexible, cost-effective program to date. It is tailored to suit your busy schedule and delivered so that even if you don't want to/ aren't able to leave your home, you can continue to receive your training sessions without a hitch.

How much does it cost?

The whole program will cost you $230 for the 18 Individual Personal Training sessions (plus the initial and post assessments) and unlimited Group Training sessions. After you complete the registration form below, we will be in touch to proceed with payment.

Commercial gyms can charge up to $700 for the same service!

We will also provide free parking for all individual and group training sessions.

Eligibility Criteria:

One of the key educational aims of the HMNS Personal Training Service is to provide students with an opportunity to work with clients who are not currently physically active – our students need the opportunity to develop the skills required to help inactive people become active. Therefore, you will be eligible for this service if:

  • You are currently insufficiently active for good health (Australian Guidelines: 30 minutes moderate intensity physical activity at least 5 times per week AND muscle strengthening exercise at least 2 times per week).
  • You are NOT wanting sport-specific training (e.g. competitive weight lifting or a triathlon)
  • You do NOT want a treatment or rehabilitation program for a specific condition or injury (e.g. chronic low back pain, ACL tear, Type 2 Diabetes, Stroke).

How do I register?

It's simple! Just follow this 4-step process:

Step 1: Register your interest by clicking on the "Register Here" button and “buying” your spot in the session of your choice.

Step 2: Wait eagerly (1 week maximum) as we screen your registration to assess your eligibility.

Step 3: Receive your email determining the outcome of your eligibility and confirmation of your place in the program, including instructions on how to pay.
