High school engagement

At the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences we believe that maintaining close contact with schools plays an important role in planning and improving the provision of quality education to future students.

Academic visits to your school

Our academic staff can visit schools to:

  • make presentations on studying human movement sciences (sport and exercise science, clinical exercise physiology, health, sport and physical education) or nutrition sciences to school groups as part of a range of activities integrated into campus visits;
  • visit schools to deliver presentations to students interested in pursuing a career in human movement sciences or nutrition sciences;
  • be involved in school career events;
  • take part in Guidance Officers’ Conferences held on campus to assist school guidance officers and career advisors in providing advice to students about studying and careers in human movement sciences or nutrition sciences.

Student experiences and activities

UQ HMNS School Visits Program

The Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences School Visits Program is an educational opportunity for secondary students to apply their learning in Senior Health and PE. Students enjoy hands-on involvement in a variety of authentic tasks and learning experiences; exploring subjects such as clinical exercise physiology, biomechanics, sport psychology, sport sciences, and nutrition sciences. During each session students are encouraged to draw upon the principles and concepts taught in your classroom and apply them to practical situations in the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences laboratories. Visits can be tailored according to student requirements.

  • Audience: Students in Years 11 – 12
  • Cost: $200 - $600 per session (subject to change)

School Tours and Experience Sessions

Ignite your students interest in the fascinating sciences behind human movement and nutrition with a variety of 'experience' sessions at the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences. Experience sessions may be in the form of hands-on workshops, career presentations, or facility tours. Session topics are available in the areas of exercise physiology, exercise and sport sciences, and nutrition and dietetics. Visits can be tailored according to student interests or requirements.

National Biomechanics Day

This FREE event is an initative of the UQ Centre for Sensorimotor Performance and aims to educate students on the fun, innovative, and enjoyable science of biomechanics. This event is by invitation only to selected high schools. If you are interested in bringing your students along please let us know. Subject to availability.
