Benjamin Noon
Current role
Accredited Exercise Physiologist at UQ Healthy Living
What does your job involve?
I deliver exercise as a form of medicine to older adults.
What do you love most about your job?
I enjoy the opportunity to work with a range of different individuals who have come from many different walks of life. Some of the people I get to work with have been exercising their entire lives, whilst others are new to exercise. Either way, it is great seeing how exercise improves their quality of life and allows them to continue to do the things they love.
What was your motivation to become an Accredited Exercise Physiologist?
My primary motivation to pursue a career as an exercise physiologist stems from my passion for helping people. I believe this job provides me with the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of older adults. Having also prioritised exercise in my own life, getting to combine my two passions makes everyday a rewarding experience.
What were the most valuable skills/experience you gained during your UQ program?
Along with the important theoretical knowledge, I gained during my study, it was so valuable to gain real world experiences throughout the degree. Being able to partake in a number of practical courses along with a number of different placements provided me with the confidence and skills to be job ready upon graduation. This early exposure to practical experience and knowledge helped me to realise I had chosen the right degree, and gave me the confidence to know I was eventually going to be working in a job I love.
Why did you choose to study Clinical Exercise Physiology at UQ?
Growing up in Brisbane I always dreamed of attending UQ. UQ has a reputation for being one of the best universities in the world, and from my perspective, it certainly lived up to the hype. World-class facilities and staff at one of the most beautiful campuses is what stood out the most.
What are your career goals for the future?
I have a desire to continue to learn and grow as an exercise physiologist and I believe I have found the best environment for me to do so. At UQ Health Living I am provided with such amazing support from my colleague’s and gifted opportunities to increase my skillset in a variety of areas. So my goal for the future is to become the best exercise physiologist I possible can and provide my clients with the best care possible.
